About constellations, independence, and new roles

The first Zodiac monthly update: the spin-out into Zodiac Labs, a first look at Roles v3, and your organization as code.

  • Company

Zodiac spun out of Gnosis Guild

Zodiac now operates as an independent company: Zodiac Labs GmbH, Berlin. The onchain components stay open-source, forever, and Zodiac itself remains fully self-custodial. None of that changes. What changes is focus: the stack you depend on now has a dedicated team, building on it full-time.

Roles v3 is feature-complete and entering audit

Roles v2 answered one question: what is this caller allowed to do? Real-world delegation fails on three more. How much? How often? Until when? Roles v3 answers all four. A role is no longer just a list of allowed calls. It is a budget, a schedule, and a key that expires.

    • Session keys, natively: memberships can be time-bound, usage-limited, or both. When the last use is consumed, the key revokes itself. And execution is relayable: a member signs, anyone can submit.
    • Budgets in dollars: allowances gain a price adapter, so a policy can say "50,000 USD per month" while the role spends across any assets.
    • Slippage with a ceiling: the new WithinRatio operator bounds amount-out against amount-in, in basis points, enforced onchain on every call.

A detailed writeup of everything in v3 will be published in August.

    Your organization as code

A constellation declares every Zodiac object in TypeScript: the Safes, the Roles modifiers, the members, the permissions, and the wiring between them. The SDK compares the declaration with the chain and applies the difference. You write what your organization should be, and Zodiac makes it so. Constellations are live today.

We want to talk to every team using Zodiac

We are sitting down 1:1 with the teams that run Zodiac: how you operate, what you need, where Zodiac should go next. If you run anything on Zodiac, one of our cofounders would love a slot on your calendar.
